Remembering the Dream

Just like NASCARnival begins at Adam’s Race Shop, Victory Junction begins with Adam.

Every week at NASCARnival, after campers finish dinner and dance like there’s no tomorrow at the Victory Junction dance party, they gather outside of Adam’s Race Shop. Built in memory of the late Adam Petty, Adam’s Race Shop is the starting place for NASCARnival activities. Campers get to watch a pit crew complete a pit stop on a racecar, meet NASCAR legends like Richard Petty and receive autographs from NASCAR racers like Aric Almirola and Joey Logano.

Adam had a dream of providing everyday childhood experiences to children with serious medical illnesses. In 1999, a trip to Camp Boggy Creek inspired Adam to make his dream a reality.

After Adam’s death in 2000, the Petty family decided to carry out his dream by building a camp that would provide children with life-changing experiences. In June of 2004, Victory Junction opened its doors—including its 84 acres of land—to campers.

Even though Adam may not be physically present, his spirit can be found in the smiles of our campers, and his dream continues to drive the mission and purpose of our camp. So every July 10th, on Adam’s birthday, we celebrate his dream. A dream that has changed the lives of over 23,000 campers.

Because of Adam’s dream, children who are faced with medical limitations have a place where they can learn to be the best versions of themselves.

Because of Adam’s dream, our campers are given the tools they need to overcome adversity in their lives.

Because of Adam’s dream, we are able to have a never-ending, quantifiable and transformative impact on our campers that transcends their time at camp.

After leaving Victory Junction, 77% of campers experience an increase in self-esteem, and 74% of campers are more independent in their daily lives.

At Victory Junction, we encourage our campers to look beyond their medical conditions to recognize how powerful and resilient they can be. Once they acknowledge their abilities and learn how to navigate obstacles, they come closer to achieving their dreams.

It’s especially important for our campers to chase after their dreams because without a dream—Adam’s dream—where would we be?
