The Tradition of the Wish Stick

On the final evening of every Victory Junction summer camp session, campers and counselors gather around a campfire for one of Camp’s most meaningful traditions.
Together, they sing songs, laugh, and celebrate everything they’ve experienced together. During the campfire, each camper writes a wish, hope, or dream on a wish stick before counselors place it into the fire.
As the embers float into the night sky, Camp tradition says the wishes become stars. And if you ever see a shooting star, it’s a reminder that a camper’s wish has come true.
Watch the tradition come to life.
This summer, campers are continuing the tradition alongside a handful of wishes shared by NASCAR drivers to help kick off the season with a little extra encouragement. Together, their hopes and dreams are joining generations of campers who have gathered around the same campfire believing anything is possible.
For many campers, the Wish Stick is more than a tradition. It’s a moment to reflect on a week filled with firsts, new friendships, growing confidence, and a desire to carry what they discovered at Camp with them throughout life.
