Summer Opportunities

It takes a lot of people serving in different roles to make Victory Junction a fun and memorable experience for campers throughout the summer. While some roles are common to those at any camp, others are more specialized. In this overview, we’ll take a look at the different summer opportunities available at VJ. You may even find one that’s perfect for you or someone you know!

Cabin Counselor

Cabin counselors serve as caretakers for the kids in each cabin during the summer. Each cabin has a team of 5-8 counselors who empower campers to try new things, make friends, and have tons of fun! Cabin counselors take care of their campers’ daily needs while also getting them safely to and from program areas. Cabin counselors are also there to support, encourage, and make sure their campers are having a great time at each activity. This is a paid position and lasts all summer, from late May to early August.

Program Counselor

Program counselors essentially have a job within a job for the summer. While with the cabin, they have the same role as a cabin counselor – hang out during meal times and enjoy activities with their cabin. However, program counselors are also assigned to the various program areas around Camp.

Program counselors help run and supervise activities at many areas, including the barn, adventure, boating and fishing, and more! In most program areas, these counselors plan and facilitate activities for all the kids who come to VJ, regardless of age. Program counselors are always present in their assigned areas when campers are there, ensuring that all activities are safe and fun. A super-cool plus for most program areas is getting to meet every child who comes to Camp that week, instead of just the campers in their cabin! When not running a program area, program counselors get to hang out and have fun with their own campers! This is a paid position and lasts all summer, from late May to early August.

Volunteer

There are also roles that volunteers can take on as well! Volunteers can commit to single day, a weekend, or even a week of camp, depending on the session. Volunteers are accepted for up to two weeks in the summer and may be considered for additional weeks if openings are available. Volunteer positions are perfect for someone who wants to experience the magic of a summer at VJ but who may not be able to commit to a whole summer. There are opportunities for everyone! Volunteers can assist cabin counselors with their campers, or they may help out in certain program areas, such as the barn.

There are also positions in the kitchen, helping to set up the dining area and cleaning up after meals. If you have certain medical experience, there are even medical volunteer positions as well! Every type of position mentioned under the volunteer section, is a volunteer role lasting for up to two weeks (unless more time is wanted and more openings are available.

“No matter what role you do during the summer at VJ, it is an incredible, and life-changing experience!”
