Small Camp Moments Create Big Impact

Ask Alex what made him smile at Camp, and he doesn’t have to think very hard.

“Hitting the balloon.”

He’s talking about archery. It’s one of those camper moments when trying something new turns into realizing you can actually do it.

For Korei, as a one of those moments is dancing.

Some of his favorite Camp memories come from starting dance parties with campers and discovering how something so simple could create connections throughout Camp.

“There was something about being able to dance with campers who I didn’t even have, and being able to make an impact on more than just the campers that I was assigned to,” Korei said.

What their Campfire Chat Live episode.

It’s part of what keeps bringing him back to Victory Junction. And along the way, Korei discovered that the impact he hoped to make on campers was happening in the other direction, too.

“I would like to thank all the campers that have made a huge impact on my life,” he said. “I don’t even know what I would be doing without you guys.”

That’s Camp.

Sometimes it’s hitting a balloon in archery. Sometimes it’s a dance party. Sometimes it’s laughing with a new friend about random facts or discovering, as Alex did, that mini-golf is really hard.

To some people, they may seem like small moments. But together, they help build confidence, create connections and become lasting memories that carry the impact of Victory Junction far beyond Camp.
