Counselor Spotlight: Kevin

September 1, 2017

Meet Counselor Kevin!

It is a child’s dream to attend Victory Junction. In 2004, Kevin had the opportunity to come to camp, however, he chose to give his spot to someone who needed it more than him. Although he never attended as a camper, he didn’t give up on his dream of being a part of Victory Junction.

Kevin’s first experience at Victory Junction began in 2012 when he participated in Run to Victory, our 5K/10K race that starts and finishes at camp.

Kevin separates himself from other runners because he can zoom up and down hills at camp like it is a flat track. In fact, he always seems to place first in his age group. Attending, and winning, the run two years in a row was not enough for Kevin – he wanted to do more. He applied to be a summer counselor in 2014 and was accepted.

“Camp was a whole new world to me, it was
amazing and great from the start,”

For Kevin this was well worth the wait. His experience as a camp counselor has brought him a greater appreciation for camp. Kevin recognizes the effects that camp has on people since his acceptance as a counselor.

“I think I have more fun than the kids do in
some camp activities,”

Kevin enjoys everything camp has to offer, but his specialty is the pit stop on NASCARnival nights. You can catch him in all the action wearing a racing suit and timing pit crews. There is no place Kevin would rather be.

Kevin is always spotted around camp in his cowboy hat, just like the King of NASCAR, Richard Petty. Not only do they agree on style they also agree on giving back. Our camp counselors are a big aspect of our camper’s experience. When we hire our summer staff, we look for people like Kevin. Passionate, caring and devoted. We are happy Kevin finally took his spot at Victory Junction.
