Victory Junction’s adaptive, intentional programming includes summer camp, family weekends, day programs, equine therapy, pediatric patient outreach, and partner programs. By removing all barriers, Victory Junction welcomes children with serious illnesses and chronic medical conditions to experience camp fun, all in a medically safe environment. Victory Junction is a member of SeriousFun Children’s Network and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
Job Description
The Barn Program Director of Victory Junction provides the means of fulfilling the mission statement by managing and providing care to the barn program (which includes staff, facilities and all animals) at Victory Junction. Design and execute all barn experiences including the riding program for all programs and guests; ensuring safety, compliance with industry standards (American Camp Association, and pertinent riding standards).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Provide management, care and preventive health maintenance for all animals, including daily feeding, exercise, grooming, worming, routine and emergency veterinary care, shoeing needs; and maintain all animal care records;
- Implement operational structure for all programs, including but not limited to: all schedules, rider evaluations, horse rotations, & any other task related to the program.
- Management of barn staff, volunteers, and summer program counselors.
- Train, manage and support staff, paid and volunteer, relative to accomplishing daily cleaning, care and feeding, caring for sick/injured animals seven days a week, including holidays;
- Ensure tack, barn, and all animal areas are cleaned and maintained regularly to optimize health and safety of animals and participants;
- Implement training procedures to effectively train staff and volunteers in safety requirements, programmatic techniques, and emergency procedures.
- Manage Equine Program with campers, ensuring safety is at the forefront; Also ensure the highest priority is given for the safety of animals, riders, staff, and volunteers;
- Maintain farm and equine facility conditions in a clean and safe state whilst also working alongside the Victory Junction facilities team to communicate the barn needs.
- Establish and maintain budget for animal health care, feed, supplies, upkeep of facilities; Negotiate and purchase animal feeds and other supplies; while seeking donations. Respond to requests for donated animals, maintain relationships with past donors, seek new donations;
- Maintain and develop appropriate professional partners such as veterinarians, farriers, feed suppliers, etc.
- Ensure properly trained personnel are on camp facility when away from camp and also there is always appropriate on-call coverage.
- Research and provide information to support the decision-making needs of the Executive Camp Program Director for improvements in animal care and farm management techniques; implement new approaches when necessary.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
- Must have a certification from a nationally recognized organization as an instructor of horseback riding (NARHA, CHA, PATH etc.)
- Extensive horse health and barn management knowledge;
- Knowledge of therapeutic riding;
- Administrative experience with riding program;
- Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid;
- Experience with camp Equine Program desired;
- Demonstrated supervisory experience;
- Computer knowledge with Microsoft Office applications
