Adventures at the Zipline

At Victory Junction, we believe that every child, no matter their illness or diagnosis, should enjoy normal childhood experiences. There are many facilities at camp that give our campers the opportunity to face fun challenges in a safe and medically-sound environment.

The zipline at our Adventure area is one of campers’ favorite program areas. They get to zip through the air at incredible speeds while building lasting relationships with other campers and counselors.

The zipline is zero-entry which means that campers in wheelchairs can easily access the zipline platform. Once campers are on the platform, they are connected to a hook that will lift them out of their wheelchairs and attach them to the zipline. After the camper reaches the other side of the platform, they can be lowered back into wheelchairs, placed onto golf carts and driven back to the beginning of the platform.

“This allows them to zipline like any other camper,” said Ashley, camp counselor and zipline operator.

However, the zipline is not automatic; it has to be hand cranked by the zipline operators and counselors. According to zipline operators, if the zipline were automatic, it would seem more like an amusement park ride rather than a challenge.
