Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Victory Junction’s volunteers are the camp's "Pit Crew" and help keep the engine running smoothly. Volunteers might live in the cabins, assist in program areas, help with office work or assist with events on and off camp. The gift of your time and talents has a tremendous impact in the lives of campers.

Victory Junction is currently accepting volunteer applications for our spring and summer sessions.  To ensure consistency a commitment for the entire session is required. Victory Junction does provide shuttle service from Piedmont Triad International Airport located in Greensboro, N.C. at 1 p.m. on arrival day and on departure day at noon. Please note for our weekend sessions volunteer arrival will be at 2 p.m. and departure will be at noon on Sunday.
For our Summer sessions volunteers will arrive the day before campers for orientation and check in will be at 2 p.m. and departure on the last day will be at noon.

Requirements

• Must be 19 years of age or older
• Complete and submit the Volunteer Application
• Submit 3 non-family/non-friend references with contact information
• Participate in a telephone interview
• Pass the Criminal Background Check
  • Complete a staff medical form to include a record of the following immunizations:
  • MMR
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • Hepatitis A (if serving in the kitchen)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus
  • TB skin test in the last 12 months
  • Flu shot for winter volunteers and staff
  • Provide a copy of a physical in the last 2 years
• Sign and return a volunteer agreement
• Attend Orientation
• Commit to entire length of scheduled session

Volunteer Opportunities

• Crew Chiefs

  - During our spring and fall family weekends Crew Chiefs serve as ambassadors of Victory Junction for each of the families we host for the session. That means welcoming them to camp, escorting them throughout their camp experience, providing information about the program, and interacting with all members of the family in a positive, appropriate and caring fashion. Your role is very import because as the initial face of Victory Junction and the family’s constant representation, you have a major part in the feel of camp and the community that is established. In short, laugh, play and care for the family you are with for the weekend.
  
  

• Program Chiefs

  - Volunteers are needed during our fall and spring weekends to help prepare, supervise, and facilitate one of the areas listed below. In addition, each program chief is expected to join the family he or she is assigned to for meals, evening programming and any other time they are not needed in their program area.

• Stable Crew

  - Assisting as needed in the stables. This includes grooming horses, cleaning stalls and general stable duties.
  
  

• Kitchen

  - Assist the Kitchen Manager/Chef with various duties which will include setting up and cleaning up after each meal.
  
  

• Cabin Counselors

  - During our summer sessions Cabin Counselors take care of the daily needs of six to eight campers. The job requires being actively involved in the supervision, guidance, and motivation of campers by building working relationships with kids and staff to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained. Cabin counselors are expected to sing, dance, and be silly; we play with kids!
  
  

• Volunteer Unit Nurses

  – Each summer session, Victory Junction recruits four or six volunteer registered nurses (RNs) to assist with camper and staff care. Volunteer nurses work side-by-side with our staff nurses to provide primary care to a group of campers with specific diagnoses. Care includes: following each camper's individual plan of care as detailed by their home physician or specialist, providing needed treatments, medications, lab draws, and assisting with camper personal care needs. Volunteer nurses also spend a portion of the session triaging and treating the unexpected camper or staff illness or injury.
  
  

• Volunteer Nurse for the day!

  During our summer sessions, we are in need of several volunteer nurses to assist with medications from 1 to 6 p.m. ET every camper arrival day.
  
  

• Volunteer Physicians

  - We recruit two to three volunteer physicians (specialists and/or general practitioners) each session. Physicians work closely with the nurses in providing routine and emergency care to campers. Resident physicians, at the PFY-2 or greater level, assist in the Body Shop under the supervision of the Medical Director.
  
  

• Health Care Professionals

• Summer Sessions: RNS, LPNs, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, EMTs, and other medical professionals or students are needed as cabin counselors! Please refer to the Cabin Volunteers/Crew Chiefs job description.
• Family Weekends: LPNS, RNs, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, EMTs, and other medical professionals or students are needed as crew chiefs! Please refer to the Cabin Volunteers/Crew Chiefs job description. If you are a nurse, you may be asked to carry OTC medications during the weekend.
  
  

• Office Volunteer

  (no housing available)
• Responsibilities:
  • Answering phones and general questions regarding the camp
  • Transferring phone calls
  • Returning voicemails
  • Assisting with mailings (folding, stuffing, sealing, metering, etc.)
  • Photocopying
  • Filing
  • Faxing
  • Other fun duties as assigned

Hi Claire! I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to visit camp for another awesome weekend!  This past weekend was especially awesome because you paired me with the best family ever!!  I haven't laughed and smiled so much in a really long time :)  I volunteer at VJ hoping to make kids and their families smile, but last weekend my family truly blessed me.  Every time I think about them I get such a warm feeling in my heart.  TJ is an amazing kid with a wonderful imagination (his purple people eater costume was the greatest), and I'm so thankful I got a chance to spend a couple of days with them!  God knew just how to lift my spirits :) 

On a side note, I was wondering when we can sign up for Spring sessions... let me know when you get a chance.
